Hi everyone,
I've been keeping my updates to Instagram recently so apologies for the inconsitency in the blog posts! I'll be reformatting and keeping the main speaker information on here from now on.
On October 28th, EmpowerHer kicked off with a bang as we had Sidra. F. Sheikh deliver an amazing talk to not only the students at Humaira Riaz, but also their mothers and teachers, who left the talk equally inspired.
Her talk enlightened the audience about a range of important topics, focussing primarily on basic legal rights of women in Pakistan. This is fundamental knowledge to have, which is often taken for granted by so many of us, so we are incredibly grateful that Sidra was able to share her insights into the subject as an accomplished lawyer in Pakistan, leaving her audience with an in-depth understanding of their rights.
More about the speaker herself...
Sidra. F. Sheikh is not only a successful lawyer, but also an accomplished author, having written and released the first sci-fi novel by a Pakistani author: "The Light Blue Jumper." She lives in Lahore, Pakistan and is a mother to two children. She has a BSc from the London School of Economics and is qualified as a Solicitor. She's on the managing committee of Gulab Devi Hospital and on the board of directors of Al-Aleem Medical College. She is also an independent director on the board of Treet Corporation Limited and an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. She really does it all!
Sidra was the perfect role model to start of the EmpowerHer program. She really inspired the girls' ambition with her many impressive achievments, and also broadened the girls' understanding of their own legal rights, enabling them to a safer and more informed life.
We couldn't be more grateful to her for starting off the program with such an inspiring talk!
